Mr. Christoph Heider has been appointed as the new Secretary-General of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK), succeeding Mr. Wolfgang Slawinski. The announcement was made by the ECCK Board of Directors on 6 May 2013.
Formed as an association of European businesses operating in Korea, the ECCK represents their collective voice in the areas of EU-Korea FTA implementation, regulations regarding foreign investment and general business issues.
In his new capacity, Mr. Heider will oversee the ECCK’s functions as an information and communication channel for European corporations, lead its government relations and supervise the Chamber’s day-to-day operations. Mr. Heider will officially assume his position from 1 June 2013.
Before joining the ECCK, Mr. Heider has been with Bayer AG, a German pharmaceutical company since 1997. As a specialist in corporate finance and accounting, Mr. Heider held various positions in Bayer, including Chief Financial Officer at Bayer Korea, Head of Accounting & Reporting at Bayer Japan as well as Regional Manger for Legal Entity Accounting at Bayer AG in Germany.
Mr. Heider, a German citizen, holds a Master’s degree in Business Economics at University of Mannheim, Germany. He has been living in Korea for three years with his wife and daughter. “I am deeply honoured and delighted by the opportunity to work for the Chamber as the new Secretary-General. I will actively listen to our members and my new team to bring out the synergy of the team,” said Mr. Heider.
Mr. Thilo Halter, President of the ECCK, also endorsed his confidence by saying that “Mr. Heider is a good leader, who can bring professionalism and direction to the ECCK. He has a wealth of experience in finance and building competent teams. Therefore, Mr Heider will head the operations transparency and will build up strong relationships with our members and the Korean authorities. I am looking forward to working with him.”
